Baltimore Drivers Are Actually The Worst Drivers

Everyone thinks the worst drivers live in their state. Based on statistics, states are ranked based off various factors: fatality rate per 100 million miles traveled, plus the number of road fatalities that are a result from (a) failure to obey traffic laws, (b) drunk driving, (c) speeding, and (d) careless driving.

Allstate ranked 200 cities for safe driving and named Baltimore last on the list. The insurance company based its data on the number of years between accident claims and how often drivers braked hard.

On average, drivers in Baltimore saw 3.8 years between accident claims, which far below the national average of 10 years between claims. Allstate also found that Baltimore drivers braked hard 29.3 times per 1,000 times, which is 10 times more than the national average of 19 hard-brake events per 1,000 miles.

Baltimore, which once ranked as second-worst drivers, fell to the worst slot last year. The city has consistently ranked among Allstate’s bottom 10 cities — falling steadily from its spot at No. 191 in 2008.

Miami on the other hand, which was also once considered one of the worst cities to drive in, saw much improvement in the safety of its drivers, jumping to 86th on the list from 123rd last year.
