K-pop fans are definitely screaming with delight because BLACKPINK will be the first K-pop girl group to play at the music festival. Coachella is one of the biggest places to gain a spotlight, so the group is sure to gain the attention of industry insiders and a wide-ranging audience.
BLACKPINK’s inclusion is the latest case of K-pop making it on the radar of the American general public. The girl group will hit the Coachella stage on April 12 and 19, headlined by Childish Gambino. The Friday lineup also includes artists such as Janelle Monae, Anderson, Paak and Kacey Musgraves.
BLACKPINK is the second overall K-pop group to grace the Coachella stage after Epik High’s 2016 appearance. Other Korean bands performing this year include HYUKOH and Jambinai.
BLACKPINK made impressive headway in the States in 2018 when their song “DDU-DU DDU-DU” hit No. 55 on the Hot 100, making them the highest-charting K-pop girl group. The group later teamed up Dua Lipa for “Kiss and Make Up,” a bilingual hit that reached No. 93. BLACKPINK also signed with Interscope and Universal Music Group.
So if you’re a fan of K-pop or have never attended the festival, then attending Coachella maybe worth it this year!
