There’s about to be a whole lotta punching (and also kicking).
Calvin Kattar and Rob Font are two of the UFC’s fiercest competitors. With Font’s 16 wins out of 20 matches and Kattar’s 20 wins out of 23 matches, these lean, mean combatants have enough speed and strength between them to take on any who dare to challenge them.
Both fighters are proficient in the ground-centric Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as well as the dastardly single strikes of Muay Thai in Font’s case. Both fighters have also each received at least one “Fight of the Night” commendation while competing in the UFC.
Font’s most recent fight, originally scheduled for June 22, was unfortunately cancelled due to an out-of-the-ring injury on the left eye sustained by his opponent, John Lineker. Interestingly, Lineker was actually replacing Cody Stamann, another fighter who was originally slated for that ticket, but was also forced to cancel due to an injury. Hopefully, Font will get an opportunity to give someone a proper thrashing soon, though, considering the beatdown he gave Sergio Pettis last Christmas, it’s not surprising no one’s currently jumping at the chance.
Kattar, AKA “The Boston Finisher,” recently achieved a longtime dream of appearing in SportsCenter’s Top Ten segment, after earning the number five spot thanks to knocking out Ricardo Lamas. Even when faced with talented opponents, Kattar sticks to his game plan, confusing foes with quick feints. Ever the go-getter, Kattar has extended an open invitation to anyone ranked higher than him to take him on.
Keep an eye on these gentlemen, because they’re poised to become enduring legends in the UFC, and perhaps beyond.
