Struggling with sleep? There are plenty of things that can contribute to lack of sleep, ranging from caffeine in-take to stress levels and even health issues. Once those things are ruled out, perhaps it’s just a matter of the food you are eating! Did you know there are certain foods that can actually help you sleep better? Here are 5 foods to start eating if you’re stuck counting sheep at night:
1. Almonds: They are a great source of natural melatonin as well as magnesium. Almonds also help to strengthen your hair!
2. Kiwis: These contain serotonin, the chemical in your brain known to regulate your sleep cycle.
3. Chickpeas: These bad boys are a plant-based source of tryptophan (which is also prevalent in your Thanksgiving turkey), which is an amino acid known to help with the release of melatonin.
4. Tart cherries: Another food known for its high levels of melatonin, and you can either eat them or drink a glass of juice!
5. Salmon: this fish, and other fatty fish, is known to be full of omega-3 and vitamin D, which can aid in the production of serotonin.
