If you’re any type of superhero fan then you’re probably eager to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sadly though, it seems a long ways away as Disney must first finalize their deal to acquire 20th Century Fox and other assets.
Executives are expecting the deal between Disney and Fox will close and be finalized by the last week of January 2019, according to a new report from NBC News.
For years, complicated contracts and rights issues have kept the Marvel Fox properties — The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Deadpool and more — from appearing alongside characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But should the deal come to a close, that’s all likely to change as Disney will acquire Fox’s film titles.
Rumors have indicated that some of Fox’s Marvel characters could show up in one of Marvel’s 2019 movies, such as “Avengers: Endgame,” “Captain Marvel,” or “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” however, this seems unlikely, as the movies will be months away by the time the acquisition is finalized.
However, Fox does have two X-Men movies on slated for 2019, though neither of them are said to be tying into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” is scheduled to drop in theaters on June 7 while “The New Mutants” is planned for Aug. 2.
