Tsum Tsum celebrates sakura
Sakura Mochi is a famous Japanese confectionery made of sweet pink mochi (or glutinous rice) stuffed with sweet red bean paste and wrapped in a salty pickled cherry leaf. This sweet is particularly popular among the Japanese during the season of cherry blossoms.
To ring in the spring days and celebrate one of Japan’s most favorite times of the year, Disney is launching its newest line of Tsum Tsum toys. Inspired by the sakura mochi, Disney is launching a new line of Sakura Mochi plushies featuring familiar characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy, Chip and Dale, Winnie the Pooh, and Piglet.
Each plushie is shaded pink just like the cherry blossom and designed to look just like a plump mochi cake with unique detail. Chip and Dale, Winnie the Pooh, and Piglet are snuggly wrapped in a cherry blossom leaf. Mickey and Minnie’s tail also comes with a special edition—a little cherry blossom on the end—a perfect accent to the beautiful season and in the Year of the Rat.
Donald and Daisy instead have cherry blossoms scattered all over their clothes as well as a signature accessory adorned with the pink blossom.
Are you a fellow Tsum Tsum collector? The sakura mochi-style Tsum Tsum is only available in Disney stores in Japan and sells for 660 yen ($5.99 USD).
