Disney Wants To Enter The Gaming Industry
Disney is no longer just a company that produces animation movies for children. Disney nowadays is considered a huge business that is slowly taking over a large section of entertainment.
The entertainment giant Disney is now looking into acquiring Korean PC and Nexon (a mobile gaming company) for a reported $13.2 billion, giving Disney the opportunity to enter the gaming industry.
The report comes from Korean newspaper “The Central Times,” which claims that Nexon Chairman Jung Ju Kim, who owns a 98 percent majority share of the company, approached a “high-ranking Disney representative.” The deal allegedly would have Disney absorb all of Kim’s shares in a massive takeover of the gaming company.
Nexon was founded in 1994 and employs almost 7,000 people, maintaining about 80 titles in the region. The company is a big player in the gaming industry and in South Korea and Japan. While the company is credited for many things, it is most known for publishing the MapleStory series and its presence in the mobile space.
The Nexon chairman has been looking to sell his stake in the company since January, and although a shortlist of suitors was drawn up, Kim is said to be a big admirer of Disney. So the odds seen to be heavily leaning in Disney’s favor should the company decide to absorb Nexon.
