When people think about being a shoemaker/designer they think about the fame, the fortune, and well, Kanye West checks. However, making shoes isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. It’s physically hard and monotonous. When people come in to do interviews they are generally turned away by this shoemaker…unless they have already blistered hands and know what it takes. Being a shoemaker and a shoe designer literally couldn’t be further apart and anyone who applies generally is talked out of it within a couple of minutes into the interview.
Mark Gainor designs shoes at No.One Footwear and is originally from Canada. His primary skill set is graphic design. However, it wasn’t until he went down to Los Angeles and started working for a shoe company when he realized his passion and got hooked.
