The world cup was filled with teams from all over the world ready to compete for a chance at the title to be considered the greatest football team in the world.
France won the cup, but that wasn’t the entire story for the whole duration of the cup.
Teams like Croatia reached unremarkable feats, like winning 6 straight games against teams like Nigeria, Argentina, Iceland, Denmark, Russia, and England. Belgium was also impressive.
People always believed that they would break through the ranks and impress the crowd with their play and they did, with a run to the semifinals that including a signature quarterfinal win over Brazil.
Japan was also on the radar, coming out of a tough group and being the only Asian team to advance to the later rounds. But not all the teams put their best foot forward in the world cup.
Africa was unimpressive with a 3-10-2 finish and some players like Lionel Messi had much to prove on the field during the world cup. His legacy may be secured as one of the greatest scorer of all time but critics say that for him to be the best, he needs to add a world cup title to his long list of accomplishments.
