If you’re an avid texter and have tried hitting up a potential date or friend via text messaging, then you may have experienced “ghosting” at some point in your life. Maybe you were the one that ghosted the person. Ghosting has come into the limelight in recent years because of the emotional effects it can have on people can be devastating, and particularly damaging to those who already have fragile self-esteem.
Ghosting, for those who have not yet experienced it, is having someone that you believe cares about you, whether it is a friend or significant other, disappear from contact without any explanation at all. That means no phone call or email and not even a text.
This year though, ghosting has reached another level as Party City, the popular party store, is currently selling a “ghosted” dress for Halloween this year. The costume is a witty nod to the term “ghosting” with the dress itself shaped like the ghost emoji.
The description on the Party City website reads as follows: “If someone’s blowing up your phone, ghost them in a Ghosted Costume for women! The costume is a hooded white dress designed to look like a ghost with a series of unanswered texts on the front. The texts include “???,” “R U OK!?,” and more. Eager texters will know not to bother you in this Ghosted Costume!”
The costume’s reception have been mixed. Some playfully identified with the costume while others thought the idea was silly. Others pointed out that there is no men’s version of the costume available and have taken the implication to be that men are not capable of ghosting behavior.
