Time to ready your wallet because one of the best times of the year is drawing near — Girl Scouts cookie season. The scouts have been finding creative ways to sell cookies, even getting celebrity moms like Jennifer Garner to join in on the cookie fun. But in 2019, fans of the delicious cookies will have another reason to celebrate.
For the first time in two years since the s’mores cookie was introduced to the Scouts family, cookie lovers will have a new flavor option to add to their orders of Thin Mints and Samoas: Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies.
The new treat will be available in select areas across the country starting Jan. 2, which is the official start of the Girl Scout cookie-selling season. The cookie is made with caramel, semi-sweet chocolate chips and just a hint of sea salt. Better yet, the new cookie is also gluten-free, making it the second gluten-free option in the collection following Toffee-tastic.
The new flavor comes just in time as chocolate and caramel cookie flavor combinations have become increasingly popular among consumers. It also plays into the growing trend of the gluten-free market. While the new cookie flavor will be available in 2019, the Girl Scouts warn that availability will vary from council to council and that the gluten-free varieties will cost more than the classic cookies.
The Girl Scouts have been selling cookies since 1917, and the annual sale typically runs from January to April. Scout groups get to decide what to do with the money they raised, which can go from planning outdoor trips to undertaking community service projects.
