Twenty-eight years later after Kevin McCallister had to fend off two bumbling burglars all-alone on Christmas in the iconic 1990 movie “Home Alone,” actor Macaulay Culkin has reprised his role as McCallister.
Google has brought its Google Home device together with Culkin in its latest ad, “Home Alone Again.” With a more modern twist and a Google Assistant-powered setup, the ad features Culkin relying on Google to help with some of the famous bits from the movie, right down to a custom “Operation Kevin” routine that automates things like locking the door, moving around a cardboard cutout on a Roomba, and turning on the lights to protect against a thief.
Google recreated scenes from the holiday classic with McCallister waking up home alone once again and asks Google what’s on his calendar.
“You have the house to yourself,” the virtual assistant replies. McCallister then goes through his day at home as usual, utilizing the help of Google Assistant to order more aftershave, set reminders, and talk to the pizza man at the front door — of course telling him, “Keep the change, you filthy animal.”
Naturally, the ad quickly went viral as “Home Alone” fans shared it across social media. The original movie is still considered a holiday classic, and clearly, the film hasn’t lost its relevancy nearly 30 years later.
