Macaw cam gives literal bird's eye view of Australian countryside

Australian man Brody Murray has taken pet ownership to its greatest height. Not only has he trained his two pet macaws to roam free like a Pomeranian at a park, but he’s attached cameras to his feathery friends to capture a real bird’s eye view.

Murray has trained his pet macaws Roku and Korra to free fly. Free flying is the avian equivalent of walking your dog without a leash, if your dog could also defy gravity. Murray chronicles these escapades of the sky on his YouTube channel and Instagram account, which give a glimpse at the sensation of flight just as Aladdin experienced it.

Speaking with the ABC, Murray said that he had copped a lot of criticism for training his birds to free fly. A large amount of the criticism came from trainers and bird owners with the ironic opinion that birds belonged in cages, and that they could become lost or meet danger.

A great deal of the training skills were taught to Murray by Texas-based trainer Chris Biro. Murray says that training birds in free flight is akin to training a dog to be able to walk without a leash, adding that the intellectual capacity of a macaw surpasses that of your standard canine companion.

BONUS

Murray giving his birds a tummy scratch is weirdly adorable and will probably make you want to ditch your dog for the cooler flying version.
