Meet the Tardigrade, The Animal That Will Outlive Us All

Water bears are going to outlive us all… it’s fine.

Tardigrades, also known as the water bear, are microscopic animals, which can survive in many extreme conditions, including space. Meet the tardigrade, the animal that will outlive us all. Tardigrades are eight-legged micro–animals. These tiny critters live in water, moss and lichens on trees. Tardigrades are microscopic but incredibly tough. They can survive years of dehydration, massive doses of radiation and even space. Experts say the tardigrade lineage began 520 million to 100 million years ago. New research shows tardigrades could survive a number of cosmic disasters that could potentially hit earth. The finding is reassuring for scientists concerned about the future of life on this planet.
