New ‘Dumbo’ Trailer Is Heartbreaking

The movie hasn’t even been released yet and already the waterworks are going.

The live-action “Dumbo” — directed by none other than Tim Burton — brings the wondrous flying elephant to life, with a Burton-esque touch of course. And if there’s one thing the Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands director is good at, it’s creating richly eerie atmospheres.

Dumbo’s failing circus of the 1940s, brought to life in the first full official trailer, definitely showcases Burton’s style while providing more details of what to expect in the movie.

In the trailer, we see Colin Farrell’s character, Holt Farrier, being tasked with caring for the misfit baby elephant with enormous ears. We also get a glimpse of circus owner Max Medici (played by Danny Devito), spellbinding aerial artist Colette Marchant (Eva Green) and charismatic entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (played by Michael Keaton), who’s determined on taking the failing circus and turning into something spectacular.

While that alone seems great for a movie, we have to remember the selling Dumbo’s mother. The devastating separation scene that haunted us as children will be in the movie, and seeing Momma Elephant’s trunk stick out of the bars to wrap around poor little Dumbo as the chilling song of Norwegian singer Aurora’s “Baby Mine” plays in the background will definitely make viewers grab a tissue or five.

“Dumbo” is one of many live-action reboots of classic Disney animated films that will be coming to theaters in 2019, and is set to debut on March 29.
