Singer Rihanna has filed a lawsuit against her father, Ronald Fenty, over the name of his entertainment company. Rihanna claims that his talent development company, Fenty Entertainment, breaches her copyright of the “Fenty” name.
Rihanna, 30, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, alleges in the suit her father and his business partner, Moses Joktan Perkins, that the two men “have egregiously and fraudulently misrepresented to third parties and the public that their company, Fenty Entertainment, LLC, is affiliated with Rihanna, and has the authority to act on her behalf.”
Despite being the name he passed down to her, Fenty is also the name of Rihanna’s beauty line, which she started in 2017.
Rihanna believes her father is profiting from her beauty line’s success and further claims that her father has been exploiting her name by misrepresenting himself and Perkins as her reps in order to “solicit millions of dollars” from people. She alleges that Fenty Entertainment allegedly tried to book concerts for her without her authorization.
The singer is seeking an injunction on her father’s use of the Fenty name as well as damages, for reasons such as false advertising, false designation of origin, and more.
Prior to filing the suit in California federal court, Rihanna sent several cease and desist letters.
