In late September, 26-year-old singer Selena Gomez was admitted into a psychiatric facility after experiencing an emotional breakdown. In the weeks leading up to her rehab stint, Gomez was reportedly hospitalized on multiple occasions after experiencing complications from her 2017 kidney transplant.
Her white blood cell count was reportedly said to be dangerously low, and did not improve. She has been open about her issues with anxiety and depression in the past, but the singer also reportedly struggled with the news her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber marrying Hailey Baldwin.
Since being released, a source told E! News that Gomez “is refreshed and is in a better head space.”
The pop singer is now back at home and intends to lay low before returning to work. She will also still check in with medical “professionals, as her health battle is ongoing.”
Another insider spoke to Radar and said “Selena benefited tremendously from [rehab]. She will still continue to work with therapists and a psychiatrist and is committed to making sure that she stays healthy both mentally and physically.”
Back in 2017, Gomez openly spoke to “Vogue” about undergoing dialectical behavior therapy, saying that more people should talk about therapy.
“We girls, we’re taught to be almost too resilient, to be strong and sexy and cool and laid-back, the girl who’s down,” Gomez said. “We also need to feel allowed to fall apart.”
