You favorite hero is getting a sequel
The Sony Oscar-winning animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is officially getting a sequel that will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
The original “Spider-Verse,” which was produced by Marvel/Columbia Pictures from Sony Pictures Animation was released in 2018 and grossed $190 million at the domestic box office and $375 million globally. The animated film went on to become Marvel’s most respected and admired superhero animated film, earning the Animated Feature Oscar.
Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be back for the sequel. They were applauded for their fresh and strong approach to the retro animation style of the first film. Both producers previously expressed that they were eager to reinvent the standard industry animation approach, which was why they took the bold approach of animation versus the flat and homogenized style.
While there is no word about the cast of the sequel, fans are hoping that Jake Johnson will return as Peter Parker, Shameik Moore will return as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld will return as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen. It still remains unclear whether Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham and the others will return.
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” focuses on teenage web-slinging rookie Miles Morales as he teams up with variations of web-slinging Marvel superhero from alternate dimensions.
The sequel is expected to expand on the dimensions, but full details have not been released just yet. Fans are hoping though, that the sequel will somehow connect to other Marvel movies.
