The 5 Shows That “Made” Netflix

Netflix stocks are taking a tumble due to low subscriber numbers, so let’s take a flash back to the five shows that really drove Netflix into the limelight before this grim turn.

1. House of Cards
Although Kevin Spacey won’t be returning to this show, the political drama garnered so much attention that it was the first Emmy-nominated online TV series. The show has kept viewers enticed by the twists, turns, and scandals, and will be continuing without Spacey for its sixth season.

2. Orange Is The New Black
With a July 27th premiere date looming, let’s look back on this “based on a true story” dramedy that exploded onto the scene when it was first released. The girls of Litchfield prison quickly became one of the most diverse and interesting casts to watch, and has snagged many Emmy’s for having an outstanding ensemble. None of the titular inmates are even remotely forgettable.

3. 13 Reasons Why
The most controversial of the list, this show was based on a book by Jay Asher. Starring Katherine Langford as Hannah, the show traversed some of the hardest topics of high school and adolescent life, culminating in some grueling, realistic depictions that were both praised and criticized by viewers everywhere. It has already been renewed for a third season.

4. Stranger Things
There has never been a stronger cast of kid actors than there are in this show. The sci-fi driven drama combines action, humor, and adventure flawlessly into one of the most unique experiences on television. Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, skyrocketed to fame as an inspiring young actress for all girls to look up to.

5. Grace and Frankie
When you combine powerhouse actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin for a quirky comedy where their characters’ husbands fall in love with each other, there’s an instant recipe for success. The show combines realism with humor to find a perfect balance.

While these 5 shows are staples in the Netflix line-up, will they be enough to keep the streaming service afloat? Just know we’re still mad you cancelled Sense8.
