Legalizing marijuana has been the talk of the town, well the nation, for quite some time now. As more and more states try to pass legislation to make recreational use of marijuana legal, it seems we learn more and more about this once illegal drug. Like, hey…maybe it’s not as bad as we were once taught it was. So it’s quite refreshing when we get a glimpse of what an America full of legal weed might look like, from the eyes of someone living it.
Rapper Mc Flow (Abby Dorsey) gives us the lowdown in this music video called, “Welcome to the Dispensary.” The video was shot at a dispensary in San Diego, called URBN LEAF. The San Diego-based rapper is no stranger to the cannabis world, and she’s definitely puff puff passing the love. But, she hasn’t always been spitting fire about herb. Flow’s debut album, Incredible, was awarded “Best Hip-Hop Album” at the 2008 San Diego Music Awards (SDMAs). She also did a collab with Jason Mraz for a PSA about the dangers of soda overconsumption in 2012. This girl has some major street cred in the music world!
It was her humor-based videos about marijuana that really propelled her into the spotlight. In 2015, the video for her holiday hit, “Pot in the Latkes,” went viral on YouTube. And since then, people have been asking her millions of questions about the drug and she has been flying high. As it’s put on Mc Flow’s website, “that shift, along with the legalization of recreational cannabis in California, inspired Flow to release her latest project, a 5-song EP titled Her Highness. Part love letter to the plant, part political manifesto, Her Highness explores a unique moment in history the way only Flow can – through rapid-fire rhymes, feminist sensibility, and her trademark sense of humor.”
