Jaleel White became a phenom from his role as Steve Urkel: the glasses wearing, suspender snapping, geeky, romance king. As popular has he became, and still is, one would think he was born for stardom. But, the truth of the matter is, Jaleel White was ready to give up on acting before the boy invented the character Urkel himself.
The cast of Family Matters recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly, and White admitted he was ready to be done with acting all together when he went to his audition for Urkel.
More than that, according to the co creator of the show, William Bickley, the role of Steve Urkel was originally supposed to a one and done! Talk about destiny.
