Ladies are always scoping out the chicest trends in nails, from red carpet manicures to minimalist nail-art in an effort to keep their talons totally high fashion. You’ve most likely heard of 2018’s most notable nail trends and nail art ideas — “word play,” classic red, OTT bling — but have you heard of sushi nails?
Sushi addicts and manicure lovers can combine their two passions for the latest social media trend in Japan: sushi nail art. The traditional Japanese dish has once again become this year’s inspiration for manicures, literally encouraging you to play with your food.
From shrimp, tuna, or salmon to octopus, you can paint your nails or embellish them to look like your favorite sushi roll. While quite a bizarre look, it’s definitely fun and original. The sushi nail art trend was born from Twitter when Ayamon, a Japanese user, posted photos of her self-made sushi nail art. The tweet instantly went viral with over 10,000 re-tweets in just a few days.
With so many types of sushi, the number of interpretations for nail art is endless, and many nail artists are showing off their own versions of sushi nail art on social media. Most designs are three-dimensional, which is probably the coolest part as it brings the sushi to life. There are also simpler designs where the sushi and other symbols representative of the sushi industry are intricately painted onto the nails.
