With so much music and music videos available on the video-sharing website, it seemed only natural that the website would move further into the music industry. YouTube and Eventbrite have partnered to give fans a direct way to purchase tickets to artists’ live shows.
A button will now appear below videos for musicians with official Artist Channels (i.e. Charlie Puth, Ariana Grande, and Drake), which fans can use to purchase tickets directly through Eventbrite.
In the meantime, YouTube will to add more artists and venues as the partnership expands. This isn’t YouTube’s first venture into ticket sales before. The company previously partnered with Ticketmaster to provide a similar retail experience.
However, this particular partnership with shows that YouTube has grown so much that it now covers over 70 percent of the U.S. ticketing market, demonstrating that it has a stronghold in the music industry.
YouTube is now considered a music hub, with 60 percent of Americans between the ages of 35 and 54 claiming they visit the site at least once a week for music-related content, according to a Google study.
YouTube even has an Artist Spotlight in its Trending section, which highlights a rising musician.
YouTube plans to expand the ticket purchase feature to include more artists and venues across North America in the future before expanding globally.
