Dunkin’ Donuts is cutting back on dine-in locations

Roughly eight percent of all Dunkin’ stores in the United States will close by the end of this year, according to an official statement released by the company. While a list of affected locations has not been announced, the closures will affect 450 shops at Speedway gas stations and convenience stores.

The company announcement reported that Dunkin’ saw “low-volume sales” at various locations in its second-quarter earnings. Additionally, approximately 350 locations located outside of the United States “may permanently close,” and the closures are being treated as “real estate portfolio rationalization.”

The closures are part of a bigger move to set up the company’s “U.S. system up for continued strong, profitable future growth,” the Massachusetts-based company said.

Dunkin’ is not the only American chain affected by decreasing sales. McDonald’s also announced that it was closing about 200 low performing locations, many of which are located inside Walmart stores.

In other news, starting August 3rd, DD Perks members can get a free medium coffee (iced or hot) with food purchase at any Dunkin’ Donuts location as part of the company’s new Free Coffee Mondays initiative for the month of August. The promotion will run for the entirety of August.
