New season of “Fire Force” coming this summer

If you’ve been binging on anime during your time of social distancing, then mark your calendars for Season 2 of “Fire Force.” The new season will premiere on July 3 on TBS.

The anime is an adaptation of Atsushi Ōkubo’s “Fire Force” and is set in a post-apocalyptic world of prokinetics and demons. Season 2 is expected to build upon the plot that was explored in Season 1.

As seen in the first season, the plot imagines a world in which the planet becomes engulfed in flames, and the only landmass that survived is Japan. Tokyo-based firefighters are set out to battle “infernals” that emerge from human beings who spontaneously combust.

All the while, there is a doomsday cult that seeks to utilize fire for their own evil gain. Season 2 will pick up where Season 1 left off—the main character, Shinra Kusakabe, continuing his journey to tracking his missing family while opposing the mysterious doomsday cult that is behind the Infernal attacks.

The original manga was written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo and began its serialization in the manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2015. Currently, there are 22 volumes. “Fire Force” Season 2 will arrive on streaming services like FunimationNow next month.
