Miami-Dade county will also implement a 10 p.m. curfew
As a result of the spike in COVID-19 cases, Mayor Carlos Gimenez has announced that Miami-Dade County restaurants—with the exception of outdoor dining, delivery, and takeout services—and gyms will close down again. This new order is effective Wednesday and follows the 10 p.m. curfew.
Outdoor dining will be allowed “with restrictions that include tables of no more than four patrons, appropriate distancing, and music played at a level that does not require shouting, to prevent the emission of potentially dangerous airborne droplets,” Gimenez said.
On the other hand, the county’s beaches will reopen Tuesday after being closed for the holiday weekend. However, they could be forced to close again if people are negligent and gather in large crowds or do not follow safety rules.
Gimenez signed the emergency order to ensure that hospitals would have the necessary room and staffing to continue saving lives.
Miami-Dade County has seen a recent spike in new cases and several recent deaths as a result of COVID-19. The county has totaled almost 50,000 cases and over 1,000 deaths, the highest numbers in the state of Florida.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber stated that if hospital capacity decreases even more, then there could be another stay-at-home order. Outdoor activities such as condo and hotel pools, summer camps, and daycare centers will remain open under strict guidelines.
