Parody video shows a hilarious beta version of Amazon Echo

If you’re a bit freaked out by the capabilities of Amazon Echo, the company’s new Siri-like speaker-slash-personal-assistant, you should have seen the beta version.

As this video shows, the early iteration of Echo had some rough edges. It mouthed off to mom (“It’s time to calm the f*ck down!”) and gave lame answers to trivia questions (“Mount Everest is like probably the tallest mountain. I heard a guy died trying to climb it.”) This sassy device also tells the kids off-color jokes and mishears “wrapping paper” as “rap albums.”

Amazon probably won’t be a fan of this parody, but it could have been worse. In 2011, a Siri parody cast Apple’s voice-recognition device as a bloodthirsty killer.
