Instacart is looking for new employees
Instacart is looking to hire 300,000 “full service” contractors to help deliver groceries to people during the COVID-19 outbreak. Many individuals and families are stuck at home with no way to access their local grocery stores due to social distancing and shelter in place orders.
Over the past few weeks, Instacart claims that order volume has increased by 150 percent, and more people are using the service to buy more groceries than before.
The company operates in over 5,000 cities across the United States. With everything going on, Instacart wants to help those in need—people stuck at home and people who are temporarily out of a job—by hiring more contractors to complete same-day grocery deliveries and delivery drivers.
However, people in need of work and who take on this job understand that this puts them at a higher risk of getting sick. As a result, Instacart will provide paid sick leave for up to 14 days for anyone part-time or full-service contractor diagnosed with COVID-19. It is important to note, however, that this policy will only be available for 30 days from March 9th.
Instacart shoppers can earn one hour of sick pay for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours per year.
