Virtual Dance Experience: Celestial Motion

Celestial Motion if offering an immersive virtual reality experience with the juxtaposition of light and contemporary dance.

The Guardian is exploring the world of VR to bring their audience immersive experiences through their new Daydream platform through The Guardian VR app. The inspiration behind the VR experience is based off imagery of solar physics, interpreting space through dance.

The dance represents the relationship that humans have with the Sun, transporting the audience to a cosmic landscape. Viewers will be able to switch between watching dancers in human form and a parallel form with ethereal digital figures.

Using motion capture technology The Guardian’s VR team collaborated with creative technologist and lead developer Luca Biada of the production studio FENYCE to create the VR experience. The director of virtual reality for The Guardian said this will be the first experience where viewers can switch between two versions of the experience.

The dance was choreographed by the Alexander Whitley Dance Company in association with Sandler’s Wells. Aside from the experience for the VR headset mobile option you can watch a desktop version. For a clip of the Celestial Motions experience, check out the video above.
