Celebrities aren’t perfect, nor are they exempt from cringe worthy moments. And on a stage as grand and big as the Golden Globes, not much will slide by unnoticed. Leave it to the internet to put together some of the cringiest, most uncomfortable moments from the 2018 Golden Globes to make us all feel better about our awkward lives.
Nicole Kidman won for Best Actress in a Mini-Series for her role in “Big Little Lies.” Upon the announcement, both her and husband Keith Urban awkwardly stumbled to stand. Kidman grabbed her husband’s face, who was still attempting to stand up, and kissed him abruptly. Kind of a weirdly timed moment. She redeemed herself nicely by giving a lights out speech shortly thereafter.
Nicole just couldn’t get out of the awkward limelight. Her costar in “Big Little Lies,” Alex Skarsgard won for Best Supporting Actor, fumbled his way through a thank you to Nicole for being a great costar…it just came off as…well, awkward.
James Franco never lets us down…and he didn’t during his acceptance speech after winning Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role in “Disaster Artist.” The inspiration for the film, filmmaker and infamous Hollywood outsider Tommy Wiseau, came up on stage and tried to speak first. Franco wasn’t having it… and the arm bar he threw up got a little dicey.
While presenting the award for Best Director, Natalie Portman pointed out the “all male nominees,” and the combination of her co-presenter Ron Howard’s awkward laugh and the faces of all the male directors as the camera panned around the room, was just absolutely priceless and SO UNBEARABLE.
Oh, and Ewan McGregor thanked both his wife and his girlfriend…so, there’s that one for us to end on.
