It was reported earlier this year that former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama had struck a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce multiple television shows and films for the streaming service.
In recent news, details of their first project have been released and it seems like it will be a Trump-inspired civics lesson.
The Obamas’ first Netflix series will reportedly be an adaptation of Michael Lewis’ book “The Fifth Risk,” which takes a hard look at the chaotic transition from the Obama administration to the Trump administration. The series will be aimed to help people better understand the inner workings of the government.
The Fifth Risk hit shelves back on Oct. 2 from W.W. Norton, and follows the chaos and mismanagement that ensued in the departments of Energy, Agriculture and Commerce in the handoff from President Barack Obama to President Donald Trump.
For her book, Lewis spoke with federal workers from the Obama administration who worked in the department. In the book, the federal workers described Trump appointees as uninformed and under-prepared for their new duties.
Although he is no longer president, Obama is still active, and as many may recall, he gave a critical speech on Trump’s actions and how voters can turn things around on Election Day.
“These are extraordinary times, and they are dangerous times,” Obama said to The Washington Post. “But here is the good news: In two months we have the chance — not the certainty, but the chance — to restore some semblance of sanity to our politics.”
