New Anime Spin-Off Coming
On July 18, a fire broke out at Kyoto Animation’s 1st Studio building, killing 35 people and injuring 33 others. Kyoto Prefectural Police already apprehended a 41-year-old man who allegedly used gasoline to start the fire and is investigating the case as arson. Upon further investigation, the suspect told police that he started the fire because he alleges Kyoto Animation “stole his novel.”
Despite the devastating fire, however, this September, Kyoto Animation’s Violet Evergarden spin-off anime will be released as originally scheduled. “Violet Evergarden Side-Story: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll” was originally scheduled for an Aug. 3 premiere at Germany’s Animagic convention, but due to the fire that broke out, had to be pushed back. But the studios show no signs of stopping as they are planning to move full steam ahead with its original plans.
According to the event organizers of the convention, the showing will commence as planned “at the express request of the studio.” The movie will also be released as planned in Japan next month.
“Violet Evergarden” was originally a novel that debuted in 2015 and was published by Kyoto Animation. An anime series adaption debuted in 2018. Additionally, another new Kyoto Animation movie, “Violet Evergarden the Movie,” was announced for a January 10 release in Japanese cinemas.
