Ted Cruz pulls attack ad that featured a soft core porn star

Ted Cruz pulled his most recent ad on Thursday after learning one of the actresses, Amy Lindsay, has also appeared in soft core porn films. The ad itself has nothing to do with porn or sex whatsoever.

Entitled “Conservatives Anonymous,” an attack ad aimed at Marco Rubio, takes place in a faux group support meeting with conservative voters who feel betrayed by Rubio on his stance on as immigration.

Lindsay, in the ad, has the kicker line, saying “maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time.”

According to her IMDB page, Lindsay has 74 film and TV credits, including soft core films Insatiable Desires, Forbidden Sins and the soft core TV series Black Tie Nights. She has also done non-erotic roles, including an episode of Star Trek: Voyager.

“The actress responded to an open casting call. She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the production company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad,” said Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Lindsay also told Buzzfeed that she had only assumed the production company knew of her filmography, since an old friend of hers from an acting class was present when she was hired. However, she has stated that the film makers and casting directors may have been unaware.

While Ted Cruz’s close ties in the evangelical Christian community may not tolerate him being associated with a woman who has appeared in erotic films (even if they are soft core) — can he really afford to alienate even just one voter?

Lindsay said that she is also a Republican, a conservative and a Christian, which is why she wanted to be part of the ad. She said, “it’s not just some old, white Christian bigot that people want to say, ‘It could be, maybe, a cool kind of open-minded woman like me” supporting Cruz.

Upon learning that the ad had been pulled, Lindsay tweeted that she was “disappointed” with the Cruz campaign’s decision.

Mashable has reached out to Lindsay and is awaiting her response.
