What It’s Like To Be A Music Supervisor For Hit TV Shows

Music In Grey’s Anatomy Is All About Emotion

Alexandra Patsavas has what some would call a dream job. She is a music supervisor for hit TV shows like The O.C., Gossip Girl, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Her role with Grey’s Anatomy entails finding music that will convey the emotional drive behind a scene or an episode. Patsavas says Producer Shonda Rhimes wanted music as score. This Illinois native began her career in the mid 90s, and says it was a 30 year journey to get to where she is today. And her process is surprisingly simple.

“I’m always listening with scenes in mind. Is this music to die to? To kiss to?”

Maybe now viewers will look at the show with a whole new perspective, knowing the song was handpicked to evoke a certain emotion!
