If you have been on an airplane within the last year or so, you’ve probably noticed the influx of dogs aboard. That’s because it has never been easier to register your dog as a ’emotional support,’ for a small fee of course. But, one recent incident on a flight is causing one airline to reconsider their policy for pets onboard.
Southwest is now reviewing their policy on ’emotional support dogs’ on flights because of a dog bite incident that occurred. Though it’s being called a dog bite incident, there was no biting that occurred. A dogs teeth “scraped” the forehead of a six-year-old, who leaned in to touch the dog even after the owner told the child to step back. To be fair, the owner warned the child and the child’s parents, and the child did not listen.
The airline now has listed on their website that they reserve the right to refuse a dog boarding a flight if they are acting improperly, or behaving ‘poorly.’ So if you plan on bringing your emotional support dog on a Southwest flight any time in the future, make sure he or she is on their p’s and q’s because Southwest will now say no!
