‘Star Wars’ Legend Steps Into Marvel Universe
Big things are coming for the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie! James Gunn has been rehired by Disney to direct the upcoming film, and if fans can remember, there were previously talks about Mark Hamill potentially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” last summer.
The Star Wars actor revealed that he had unofficially met with Gunn to discuss a role in the threequel, but when Gunn was fired by Marvel, it was thought that Hamill’s involvement in the MCU went out the window. But now that Gunn is back on board, it sounds like Hamill’s role might also be back on.
So what role is Hamill possibly slated to play? According to a Spanish MCU fan account @MarvelInfinito, the actor may be set to play Rocket’s creator. Although this should be filed as a rumor for now, it is well known that Gunn plans to explore the trash panda’s origins in the third movie, something he’s been saying since 2017.
In the original comics, Rocket comes from the planet Halfworld, a global asylum for the mentally ill. Their Earth animal companions were genetically manipulated to give them human intelligence so that they could act as the patients’ guards. As confirmed in GotG, Rocket’s still from Halfworld in the MCU.
Are you excited over the possibility of a Star Wars legend crossing into the MCU?
