Amazon’s Newest Original Series Is Coming
Over the past couple of weeks, Amazon began promoting its forthcoming “The Lord of the Rings” series by releasing a series of maps. It sparked a fiery debate from fans about what they all mean for the series, but thankfully, Amazon has put speculations to rest.
“Welcome to the Second Age,” Amazon tweeted on Mar. 7. Despite being created in November, the account but didn’t tweet until Feb. 13, but has racked up more than 14,000 followers as of publication time. Its first post was a quote from Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien: “I wisely started with a map.”
The Second Age of Middle-earth spans the time from Morgoth’s final defeat up through the Battle of the Last Alliance, seen in the prologue of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first of the Tolkien films from Peter Jackson.

In these 3400+ years, the Noldorin elves secure a kingdom under Gil-galad), Grey Havens is founded, Elrond settles Rivendell, and the dwarves come together in the kingdom of Moria. Galadriel and Celeborn also officially relocate their home to Lothlorien in this period.
JD Payne and Patrick McKay will serve as show runners for the fantasy epic after their work on “Star Trek 4” and “Jungle Cruise.” Casting is still under wraps.
