Classic tornado movie is being re-booted
Do you remember the thrilling adventures of storm chasers and incredibly powerful storms from the classic 1996 blockbuster “Twister?”
Universal Pictures is looking to reboot the classic film and is reportedly in negotiations with “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski to take on the project. Frank Marshall is set to produce the film and the studio is currently meeting with writers to pen the script.
“Twister” starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, who play meteorologists and tornado chasers, are a couple in the middle of a messy divorce. During a tornado outbreak—many of which are becoming more intense— the two reunite to chase tornadoes in order to deliver an advanced weather alert system they invented. The only thing: the system has to be placed in the direct path of the tornado.
The film proved to be a massive hit when it was released, bringing $494 million at the worldwide box office. Moreover, it was highly praised and applauded for its use of ground-breaking special effects. The film also starred Phillip Seymour-Hoffman as a hippie storm chaser and Cary Elwes, a rival storm chaser and the movie’s bad guy.
News of Kosinski directing the reboot has many fans excited. His previous work includes “Tron” Legacy,” “Oblivion,” and of course, the unreleased “Top Gun” film.
