Apple is aiming for the month of April to debut a new streaming product that will include original content free for Apple device owners and a platform to subscribe to other digital media services.
The tech company is currently in the final stages of preparing its new streaming video service, which will feature free original content for device owners and a subscription platform for existing digital services.
Apple’s video service will allow customers to sign up for existing digital streaming products and watch them in the iOS TV application.
The purpose of this venture is to simplify mobile video viewing by housing content in one app instead of forcing users to launch separate apps for each service.
Starz, CBS, Showtime, and Viacom are expected to offer a subscription through Apple’s new platform. However, Amazon Prime Video Channels doesn’t include Netflix or Hulu, so they probably won’t be available on Apple’s new platform.
HBO may join its premium network, but Apple hasn’t offered HBO the same terms that Amazon offered.
In other news, Apple also launched a Apple News subscription service, known as Apple News Magazines. The service should become available in iOS 12.2 sometime this spring, and for about $10 per month, customers will gain access to a variety of magazines and newspapers.
