On July 4, Ariana Grande celebrated America’s by birthday by expressing hatred for her country and all of its people. She licked doughnuts in protest.
She’s apologized publicly multiple times for her pastry assault in the months since — but evidently, Grande’s career is now a never ending donut-licking apology tour. That was clear when she went on Good Morning America Tuesday to promote her new fragrance, Ari by Ariana Grande.
After reciting a canned apology and presenting host Amy Robach with a promotional “Grande” sized perfume bottle, Ariana described the scent of Ari: “It’s really sweet and yummy!”
You know what else is really sweet and yummy, Ariana? Doughnuts.
She went on to say that the fragrance smells like marshmallows and raspberries — which does not make it sound less like a doughnut — and to explain the campaign associated with the fragrance, #BeYou.
“Sometimes it can be hard to be yourself in a world where there are such high standards and people, you know, tell you you have to be a certain kind of beautiful or, you know, only one type of body is being glorified in the media or something,” said Grande. “But #BeYou is really about inspiring others to feel comfortable in their own skin and embracing yourself.”
Those following the doughnut scandal closely will remember that Grande initially claimed that she acted out because she was deeply concerned about childhood obesity in America.
Grande also announced that she’ll be dropping a new single later this week, which will certainly incorporate doughnuts in on way or another, because she will never break free of this scandal.
