Earth’s mightiest heroes really are powerful!
In what was expected to be a huge success without a doubt, the Avengers assembled the biggest box office in film history, making an estimated $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office in a mere five days for just its opening alone. Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame” is the only film in history to cross the $1 billion mark for a debut.
The film’s prequel, “Avengers: Infinity War” formerly held the record, standing at $640 million for its opening last year.
In North America alone, Endgame brought in an estimated $350 million domestically, surpassing Infinity War which made the previous domestic record of$258 million. Overseas, the new Marvel film grossed an estimated $859 million, breaking the record for the biggest opening weekend internationally, which was previously held by 2017’s “Fast and Furious.”
In the words of Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Boxoffice.com, who spoke to CNN Business, “Avengers: Endgame” is the “pay off Disney and Marvel and been promising.”
The Marvel Cinematic Universe spans 22 films over the course of 11 years, formulating one massive storyline that signals a critical and impressive end of an era. Even though fans may not see some of their favorite superheroes return to the big screen, Marvel will continue its legacy with upcoming films on Spider-Man, Black Panther and Doctor Strange.
