Barcelona Allows Skinny-Dipping In Public Pools
If you are in Barcelona and enjoy a dip in the pool without a top, then rejoice because city authorities have confirmed that it is OK for women to bathe topless in city-run pools. The allowance came after complaints that some swimming spots were discriminating against those wanting to bare more.
Campaign group Mugrons Lliures filed the complaint about inconsistencies in rules governing topless bathing at certain pools. This led to an investigation, and in a report released at the end of June, it was found that several municipal pools restricted women’s rights in certain areas of the facility, according to the council.
As a result, the council’s office sent out a report to every municipal pool reminding them to guarantee equality, which also includes not preventing women from going topless. It was on a recommendation that nondiscriminatory policies be applied throughout all facilities.
According to a spokeswoman for Barcelona council, there is no written rule that governs what people can wear at municipal pools. Furthermore, topless bathing is not a new concept in Spain. In fact, at a lot of public pools, it is considered completely normal for women to go topless.
In response to the council’s actions, Mugrons Lliures celebrated the news, tweeting that Barcelona is now more “egalitarian” and “free.”
