In this inspiring video we see blind skater Dan Mancina lining up for a 50/50 grind. The video was originally posted by Tony Hawk, who said it was his favorite moment from a demo in Detroit on June 9th, 2018.

According to an interview with Jenkem Magazine, Dan suffers from a hereditary, degenerative eye disease called RP or retinitis pigmentosa. He is completely blind in his left eye and estimates he has about 5% vision in his right eye, but adds: “it’s more shadows and lights. If something’s not moving I can’t really see it.”

Dan’s disease hasn’t stopped him from doing what he loves. I’ve embedded another clip below from an earlier skate session with Dan for those interested. If you want to learn more, the interview with Jenkem is quite open and honest.
