Broadway To Revive Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’

‘Beauty and the Beast’ To Return To Broadway

It’s a tale as old as time, but one that never seems to dull out.

The Disney Theatrical Productions, Thomas Schumacher, teased plans to revive Disney’s first Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast.” Schumacher elaborated that there isn’t a set theatre for the revival and no confirmed dates.

The musical originally opened on April 18, 1994, at the Palace Theatre and ran for 13 years, closing at the Lunt-Fontanne on July 29, 2007.

“But I’m deep in it,” Schumacher said. “So yeah, it’s happening.”

The show helped Disney’s with its consistent claim on a leading spot on the box office boards, despite the company’s theatrical success not being as widely acknowledged back then.

“It’s absolutely true that when Beauty opened,” Schumacher says, “much of the artistry of putting it together and the business of it was not nearly as respected as it is today.”

The Beauty and the Beast Broadway production featured a book by Linda Woolverton and expanded the 1991 animated film’s score, penned by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman. They also teamed up with Tim Rice to create new songs specifically for the stage adaptation.
