If you’re a thrill seeker then this ride is definitely for you
Busch Gardens revealed that a hybrid roller coaster reaching heights of more than 200 feet would open at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in 2020. The theme park revealed that the ride would be the tallest, fastest and steepest hybrid coaster in the world.
The roller coaster was revealed in a video that celebrated the theme park’s 60th anniversary. Busch Gardens kicked off its 60th birthday party on Friday, Mar. 1 with fireworks, the Florida Orchestra, a spread of food. Along with the hybrid roller coaster, the theme park also announced that it would add an additional coaster.
Tigris, which will be Florida’s tallest launch coaster, is set to open in the spring. Construction on what will be a wood and steel hybrid coaster has already begun, featuring a maximum height of more than 200 feet tall. The ride, manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, will feature restored elements of Gwazi.
Busch Gardens originally opened on June 1, 1959 and was simply a garden with free admission. It was a big hit because it offered free tours of the Anheuser-Busch brewery, free samples of beer and bird shows on the lush grounds. But by 1965, Busch Gardens created a new concept for a zoo when it opened the 29-acre Serengeti Plains, which allowed the African wildlife to roam freely.
The park began charging admission as the entertainment became more complex, with extra fees for the thrill rides. By 1968, Busch Gardens became one of Florida’s top tourist attractions.
