Air Pods May Cause Health Issues
Recent articles circulating the Internet claim that Apple AirPods could pose a cancer risk. Scientists are apparently growing increasingly concerned over the potential health risks of wireless technology.
According to a United Nations and World Health Organization Petition, AirPods —as well as other wireless headset devices — pose cancer risk to its users. AirPods “communicate with one another using a magnetic induction field, a variable magnetic field [one] sends through your brain to communicate with the other,” Dr. Joel Moskowitz explained to Daily Mail.
Two hundred fifty scientists also apparently signed a petition stating that the close proximity of AirPods to the brain and inner ear can emit radio frequency radiation.
However, while there is no solid information on whether or not particular devices can cause cancer, animal studies on radio frequency radiation emitted — Bluetooth, cellular and Wi-Fi transmissions — has suggested a link to cancer.
When scientists exposed animals to this form of radiation, reproductive, neurological and genetic damage became more common in those animals than in a normal sample of the same animals.
Cellular transmissions have been said to cause certain kinds of cancer, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer has declared electromagnetic field radiation a possible carcinogen. The WHO has also developed guidelines for the level of electromagnetic frequency that various devices are allowed to expose users to.
Last year, Apple sold 28 million AirPods, while the year before sold 16 million pairs. And now there’s a new design reportedly on the way.
