‘Captain Marvel’ Is A Box Office Billionaire
“Captain Marvel” really is the most powerful superhero because she has flown higher, further, faster than any other superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
The Disney blockbuster is the seventh MCU movie to hit the $1 billion mark, and the only one directed by a woman! The previous record holder for highest grossing female superhero movie was DC Entertainment’s “Wonder Woman,” which lassoed $821.8 million worldwide.
When “Captain Marvel” first came out last month, it opened to a whopping $455 million globally — the biggest worldwide opening for a female-led movie ever.
Anna Boden, the director behind the Marvel film, is the first woman to direct a live-action movie that grossed $1 billion as well as the first female to direct an MCU film.
“Captain Marvel” joins “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Black Panther,” “The Avengers,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Iron Man 3” as the seventh Marvel Cinematic Universe film to rack up seven-figure ticket sales worldwide.
The next highly anticipated Marvel movie is none other than Endgame, which will feature Captain Marvel and is expected to potentially add another $250 million to $290 million to the MCU over its April 26 debut weekend. In fact, the movie has already set records in ticket presales. Within just six hours, Fandango ticket sales knocked out “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to take the top spot for day-one ticket sales. There were long digital lines, site crashes, sold out showings and tickets being sold for hundreds of dollars.
Without a doubt, this is one big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
