Did you know indoor ski resorts were a thing? I didn’t. I’d think there were some clear logistical problems with making an indoor version of that kind of sport. But I guess if anyone were to surprise me with size-centric novelties, let it be China.
As of a couple of weeks ago, China began construction on the Winterstar Shanghai, the world’s largest indoor ski resort. The Olympic-grade resort will occupy 213,000 square meters, 90,000 of which will be dedicated to nothing but skiing. If you’re not into that, well, why are you going to a ski resort? But if you insist, there’s apparently 25 different activities throughout the resort, including, in a bit of a contradiction, a full-scale water park.

The slopes will only be open in the winter, but the water park will be open year-round, so this resort will always have something to do. And in a stroke of fortune for vacationers, it’ll be within walking distance of Shanghai Disney Resort. That way, when your kids are crying their eyes out about falling on the slopes too many times, you’ll have something to appease them. The resort is shooting for completion some time in 2022.
