Coca-Cola May Add A Cannabis Component To Drinks

Coca-Cola is considering developing a range of marijuana-infused beverages to help ease physical problems such as inflammation, pain and cramps. In an effort to help customers ease pain using the properties of cannabis, the world’s largest drinks company is in talks with major Canadian marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis.

“Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive cannabidiol as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” Coca-Cola said in a statement.

Coca-Cola said it has been monitoring the industry and became interested in developing new drinks infused with CBD or cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive ingredient found in cannabis plants which alleviates pain. Many cannabis advocates argue the legal low-concentrate CBD oil is capable of relieving conditions including arthritis and diabetes. The CBD oil is also said to be beneficial for promoting sleep, boosting appetite and reducing stress, depression and anxiety.

Coca-Cola’s consideration of moving into the cannabis market is interesting because its name is in decline. Last month, Coca-Cola announced that it was buying the Costa Coffee chain in an effort to appeal the growing global coffee market.

Currently “no decisions have been made at this time” on Coca-Cola’s part and the company would not comment on further speculation.
