Costco will be discontinuing popular bakery item
U.S. Costco locations have paused the sales of its super-popular half-sheet cakes at its bakeries and has no immediate plans to bring them back. The cakes instead been replaced by round, 10-inch cakes.
In an official statement, Costco said, “We are focusing on our smaller 10″ White & 10″ Chocolate Cakes that seem to be resonating with our members.”
Costco half-sheet cakes are one of the retailer’s most popular items as they could be ordered for all sorts of special occasions like weddings and birthday parties. It is unknown why Costco ultimately made the decision to do away with such a loved food item, but it is inferred that it may be due to the decrease in demand stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result of the ongoing pandemic in the United States, Costco had to naturally alter operations. Costco’s bakery is not the only one to do away with certain items.
Bakeries across the country are offering individual or smaller-sized cakes. Many people, customers and employees, took to the comments section on social media to express their disappointment in the change.
But Costco pointed out that there are still other ways to celebrate special occasions and milestones and reminded customers that the bakery still offers round versions of their famous cake.
